A Biopsychological Approach

 

The term biopsychological implies a connection between the physical (biology/anatomy/physiology) and the psychological in which each element can have an influence on the other.  As a physical therapist, the connection between the physical body and emotions and/or mood is what I endeavour to assist clients in exploring in order to get as beneficial of an effect on their physical symptoms and health.

Hmmm…. Is this Counselling?

Working as a physiotherapist in the area of mental health can bring about some confusion as to how sessions with me would differ from seeing a counsellor. To help bring clarity for you, ask yourself whether your experience of anxiety and/or depression and/or trauma are affecting your physical symptoms and physical abilities/function.

If not, it is recommended that you seek assistance from a trained counsellor. 

If it is affecting physical health, it is within my scope of practice as a physiotherapist to assist you.
